CAM SINCLAIR TO MAKE HISTORY THIS WEEKEND AT THE MCG

Youth Round

MARCH 24 2010

MEDIA RELEASE – CAM SINCLAIR TO MAKE HISTORY THIS WEEKEND AT THE MCG

Victorian Freestyle Motocross (FMX) hero Cam Sinclair will launch his miraculous return to extreme sports this Saturday March 27th, by making history in Melbourne’s iconic MCG.

Sinclair who was critically injured whilst competing in Madrid, Spain last July, will attempt to be the first person ever to ride a motorcycle on the hallowed turf of Melbourne’s landmark sporting arena. Sinclair will perform as part of the Melbourne Football Club’s ‘Youth Round,’ the first of the official AFL season.

The theme for this weekends Youth Round is called ‘Dare to Dream’, with children and youths of all ages encouraged to attend the game. Over 200 are expected to gather on the ground pre match to send a message to the world to dream big and reach for the stars.

Sinclair fits the bill perfectly as the rounds’ pre match entertainment. His boyhood dream of riding motorcycles professionally and doing so in Melbourne’s biggest sporting arena the MCG is only days away from becoming a reality and under the most incredible circumstances.

Only days after making history by becoming the first person ever to land a motorcycle double back-flip during a competition run, Sinclair suffered a sickening crash while attempting the same feat in Madrid, Spain last July. Sinclair approached the jump only slightly too slowly and under-rotated badly; he suffered multiple serious injuries and very nearly lost his life due to massive internal bleeding and head trauma.

Now, only eight months later, Sinclair is ready to perform again and doing so in his home town will make this the ride of his life to date.

“I am just so excited to get out there and ride again. I’ve been working towards this moment since I was released from hospital in Spain; spending nearly every day in Rehab and at the gym trying to get my body right.” Cam Sinclair said.

“The opportunity to realise my dream and be the first person ever to ride on the MCG is such a privilege; I will be giving my all to put on a show for every single person there. I want to show them that it is possible to achieve anything in life  - you just have to work hard and give it everything you’ve got.”

Sinclair’s FMX career has literally hit new heights in recent years. In 2008 he set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance ever back-flipped on a motorcycle (129 ft) and soon after became the third person ever to land a double back-flip on a motorcycle. Sinclair’s long list of recent achievements include:

  • World record longest back-flip (129 FT)
  • World first double back-flip in a competition run (Texas, USA 2009)
  • 4th Red Bull X Fighters FMX World Championships (Mexico City, Mexico 2009)
  • 3rd Red Bull X Fighters FMX World Championships (Texas, USA 2009)
  • Most double back-flips ever landed to date (25)
  • Current Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine FMX rider of the year
  • 2009 AFMX Awards ‘biggest slam’ winner
  • Star of ‘Crusty Demons World Tours’ (2004 – Current)
  • Star in upcoming ‘Nitro Circus Live Tour’

SINCS IN FOR RED BULL X-FIGHTERS SEASON OPENER

RED BULL X-FIGHTERS RETURN TO MÉXICO FOR LEGENDARY SEASON KICK-OFF

MEXICO

The traditional season opener in Mexico City (MEX) has been a staple of the Red Bull X-Fighters

calendar since way back in the day. Rightly so: the city offers a stunning
backdrop and is the perfect venue for the Red Bull X-Fighters concept. Each
year, a capacity crowd of 42,000 packs the Monumental Plaza de Toros to cheer
on the FMX dare-devils with huge drums and the traditional white cloths made
famous by fans at football matches and bullfights. Indeed, this bullfighting
element is an integral component of life in Mexico: its complicated rules and
regulations contain a whole series of hidden symbols whose meanings go far
beyond that of a mere battle of man vs. animal.

The following riders are invited to battle for glory in Monumental Plaza de Toros on April 16:

* Nate Adams (USA)
* Robbie Maddison (AUS)
* Eigo Sato (JAP)
* Jim McNeil (USA)
* Dany Torres (ESP)
* Levi Sherwood (NZL)
* Taka Higashino (JPN)
* Adam Jones (USA)
* Libor Podmol (CZE)
* Andre Villa (NOR)
* Cameron Sinclair (AUS)
* Charles Pages (FRA)
* Blake Williams     (AUS)
* Johan Nungaray (MEX)

Five out the 14 listed riders are already seeded for the season opener in Mexico, based on their
standings at the end of the 2009 season:

* Nate Adams (USA)
* Robbie Maddison (AUS)
* Eigo Sato (JAP)
* Dany Torres (ESP)
* Levi Sherwood (NZL)

The two Wildcards go to:

* Blake “Bilko” Williams (AUS)
* Johan Nungaray (MEX)

The other 7 riders have to go through a qualification for the remaining 5 open spot in the competition.

Don’t miss our season opener against Hawthorn this Saturday.  We have an exciting young team, and are getting ready to entertain with a pre-game stunt never before seen on the MCG. With all of this, there’s no reason not to be at Saturday’s game.

In his comeback jump after recovering from injury, Cam Sinclair will be performing a 30 metre motorcycle jump on the MCG before the game.  It’s a great start to Round One, and we’ll be finishing the day with a kick-to-kick session on the MCG after the final siren.

Leading into the game, 200 children will be on the ground, creating their own ‘field of dreams’.  This group will be made up of Young Demons members, children from Reach, and Hawthorn junior members.  A $50 000 cheque will be presented to Reach by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation.

Outside the ground, memberships will be on sale at Gates 2, 3 and 5.  As well as making sure you get to the ground by 1.30 pm to enjoy all the pre-match entertainment, we are aiming to sign our 30,000th member on Saturday, so encourage you – if you haven’t got your membership already – to get in early and make sure you don’t miss out.

Of course, between the start of the game and the final siren, and away from all the extra activity, you get the chance to see our young team in action for the first time this year, as they take to the MCG – everyone’s favourite ‘field of dreams’ throughout the season.

Sincs in the public eye!

FREERIDERMX MAGAZINE – ISSUE 60

frmx-issue-60

From Freeridermx.com.au

Car salesmen all blab on about how you should try before you buy, and we reckon they’re onto something. So how about you check out the latest issue of Freerider MX below before you even head to the newsagent and shell out some coin for the thing?

What can you expect from this latest offering of Freerider MX? Freaking shedloads, that’s what! We dont know how we’ve done it, but we’ve crammed a record number of stories into this issue, but the big mumma is our feature on FRMX’s Old-School Reunion. Basically we rounded up 11 of the sport’s OG’s from Australia and had a big ride-day at Mick Hall’s compound in Coff’s Harbour. Among the riders who turned up to both ride and have a gas-bag were cover-boy Jake Bowen, Luke Cole, Mitch Glover, Mick Hall, Leigh Harriman, Shaun Richardson (who travelled 6000km return from Townsville for the day!), Michael Norris, Cam Sturtridge, Chris Thomsen, Robbie Marshall and Shannon Weal.

It was an epic day, and you can read all about it in FRMX #60.

We also take you inside the much-anticipated Nitro Circus Live Tour, and give you more than a few hints as to what you can expect to go down. Obviously the lads didn’t want to give away all their secrets, but our snooping uncovered some verrryyyy interesting things!

FRMX #60 features the Red Bull FMX Battle that took place in a little New Zealand town called Wanganui between Christmas and New Year. No-one expected it to blow up the way it did, and when the dust settled, all the riders – including a couple of Aussies – were convinced they’d just been part of the best comp in 2009. Talk about saving the best until last!

There’re loads more cracker features too. Goba was invited to the Red Bull X-Fighters judging workshop in the US earlier this year and has written a great feature on where FMX judging is headed, we take a few seasoned locals and sand-riding virgins into the Esperance sand dunes for a killer day of freeriding, sit down with FRMX’s FMX Rider Of The Year, Joe Sheppard, showcase the best deals in MX protective gear and the Nutty Professor shows you how to clean your bike like the pros do.

And when you’ve finally exhausted your mental capacity reading all of that, you can crack a beer, flick your feet up on your LazyBoy and watch our new DVD, Heavy Hitters, which we reckon is one of the best flicks we’ve put out in a long time
