Qualifying for the third stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters Tour 2009 in Fort Worth (Texas, USA) was a crash-free affair on Friday as America’s Nate Adams showed off his mad skills to take first place in the points classification. Big, bigger, TEXAS! The best FMX athletes in the world showed a healthy respect for the huge course in the Lone Star State.
FORT WORTH (USA). Adams took top spot in the quali session ahead of Australia’s Cameron Sinclair and Swiss co-favourite Mat Rebeaud. Robbie Maddison (AUS) claimed fourth place one day ahead of the main event, while Eigo Sato (JPA), who in two events in Mexico City (MEX) and Calgary (CAN) already has two second place finishes under his belt, was fifth-best on Friday night.
The twelve members of the world FMX elite had to battle with soaring temperatures during the session as the mercury continued to hover around 41 degrees Celsius just hours before the start of Qualifying.
Riders from four continents will be fighting it out for the win in Fort Worth on Saturday night. In the main event starting at 20.30 hours local time, athletes from North America, Australia, Asia and Europe will take to the air in a battle for points and glory at the third stop of the five-event Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2009. Many in Texas believe Cameron Sinclair could pull off a surprise: the Australian landed a double backflip clean in Qualifying and will be looking to do the same in front of 23,000 fans in the main event on Saturday.
Only ten riders competed in the qualifying session. Spaniard Dany Torres and American rider Jeff Kargola decided not to compete on Friday evening to protect their bodies for the main event after suffering injuries. Torres is having problems with a recurrent knee injury that has flared up again, while Kargola fell in free training in the afternoon and had to have his left knee examined by the medical team. However, both riders will be able to compete in the main event on Saturday night.
